NAGA Tournament, July 4th, 2009

At Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, Nathan competed in his first grappling tournament and did very well.

As a beginner he placed first in the Gi competition (Gi -pronounced "gee"-is the garb that they wear with the jacket, pants and belt). First place winners received a Samurai sword.
His very first match in the "no Gi" competition he lost by points. Nathan had the kid in an arm bar, but let go because he heard the kids arm pop.
He received a free fight and was bumped up a bracket to intermediate and placed 2nd.
We're so proud of him!

Our Sweet Hannah!

On January 15th of this year, Hannah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She has been a real trooper and never complains when it's time to check her blood glucose or get her shot. It's certainly turned our world upside down. The first two weeks were very difficult for me. As I've tried to learn about this disease and how to best care for Hannah, I've had many, many concerns. Many sleepless nights, as we've had to check her at 2:00a.m. She's finally reaching a level that the nurse feels is safe so there is no need for the early morning checks. So for now, she gets checked four times a day and gets between 2 and 4 shots a day. We're learning to count carbs and eat healthier. The next trick is to get her on a consistent exercise program. Hannah plays the piano well and can rock the guitar on Rock Band, but for now she's only exercising her fingers.

I still have my fears but I know that Hannah will get through this, we all will. Her family is a great support system and we love her very much. She has a lot to look forward to!

Good times at the Library!

If you ask Cade where his favorite place in the whole world is, his answer will always be "the library". We go about once a week, and sometimes his two best buddies, Charlie and Luke, will go with us and we'll have lunch afterwards and let the kids play in the stinky, smelly play area while we eat and chat. Here is a picture of Cade and his two best buddies at his favorite place in the world. Soon I will attach some video of Cade reading, because it's strange watching a four year old read 4th grade books with his little four year old voice. Cade taught himself to read and since he was an infant would sit very still while you read to him. Even now, if he's upset or doesn't want to do something, I just offer to read to him and he's instantly forgotten about his problems or will negotiate with me.
