We've got static!

Oh yes, it is true! I won the battle over ridding ourselves of the idiot box. We no longer have satellite service or cable or even rabbit ears. You may be asking yourself if I'm crazy... I may be, but that's beside the point. I'm enjoying spending more quality time with my husband and kids. We're forced to use our creativity and do things like having our own family news cast. Nathan was the anchor, Conner covered sports, Abby reported on the weeks weather, and Hannah told us what was going on in the entertainment world. We've decided to do this once a week. It was a hit with the kids. They did a great job researching and then delivering their pieces.

We're spending more time at the library finding good books to read, playing more board games and teaching Conner how to play Canasta (a card game that Joe and I enjoy).
We're also playing our instruments more often. We have Joe on piano and banjo (self taught), I play the mandolin (poorly), Conner plays trumpet (really well) and some guitar, Nathan plays guitar (he's got major skill) and the trombone, Abby and Hannah are both learning to play the piano, and Cade plays cars, blocks and Leapster.
We've been going mudding and taking more jeep rides (partly due to the fact that we gave our van away because it needed repairs which exceeded the value of the van).

Life is good without television... give it a try... come on over to the dark side!

We've considered this as well since there's so much crud on TV. The week without it wasn't bad.
